  2. I just thought of Cynthia Kadohata and her books Kira-Kira (which I loved) and Weedflower (which my daughter says is also excellent).

  3. Laura Resau has two books, Red Glass and The Indigo Notebook, both featuring Latina characters.

Juhmpa Lahiri has also written Interpreter of Maladies (collection of short stories)

I actually have more to add, but I thought I'd at least make it easy on you by following your letter divisions. Ha. Ummm. I have a lot of books. Yeah. I should also add that I am deliberately not adding poets to this list despite the fact that I plan on reading several of them, but I'd be happy to supply a list if anyone's interested.

  8. Terry McMillian "Waiting to Exhale"
(that's the only one I know from her, I'm sure she had others too)

I have to second Octavia Butler, she's an important part of Sci-Fi literature.

Hmm, those are the only ones I would be readily aware of.

  9. I would like to suggest anthologies edited by Lori M. Carlson, which will introduce readers to several wonderful voices--Red Hot Salsa: Bilingual Poems on Being Young and Latino in the United States (Henry Holt, 2005) and Moccasin Thunder: American Indian Stories for Today (HarperCollins, 2005). Full disclaimer: I'm the author of one of the stories in Moccasin Thunder.
