Lee and Low Books is an independent children's book publishing company that focuses on diversity. The books they have in their lineup are wonderfully multicultural and fun.
In celebration of Black History Month, Lee and Low Books is giving away a bunch of books! On their main site, you can enter to win one of three copies of Janna and the Kings by Patricia Smith (ends on Feb. 28). And on their blog, The Open Book, they are giving away three sets of six books (also ends on Feb. 28). Such great giveaways, and great ways to read and celebrate black history all year long!
Just thought you might like to know! :-)
The persons of color reading challenge has been put in place to highlight and celebrate authors and characters of color.

New Cover For Magic Under Glass!
If you've been here for a while, you're aware that the controversy over the cover of Jaclyn Dolamore's book Magic Under Glass was one of the reasons why Pam decided to spearhead this challenge and this site. Today, it appears that Bloomsbury has released the new cover art:
Sorry for the small image size, but I haven't been able to find anything bigger yet (I've only found the new cover on Amazon--it's not even up at the Bloomsbury site yet). You can look at a bigger version of the cover at the Amazon site--they'll let you click on it and blow it up. Just to refresh your memory, this is what the original cover looked like:
Personally, I think it's a great improvement. What do you think?
(Wanted to give a quick shout-out to Kelsey at The Book Scout and Christina at Reading Extensively for breaking the news!)

March
We have had such an awesome month in February so far! 55 PoC books read and blogged and linked. I am so proud of the progress we are making.
For March, I want to reach over 100 books read and linked. I think I have forgotten to link mine up (I am like that) so let's all read and blog PoC!
We are still open to suggestions for books, authors, PoC related blogs. We want to know what you want to see on this blog.
I would also like to feature some reviews here. So if you have written a review starting in March for March email me (info@bookalicio.us) with your reviews and your URL and a 2 line summary about yourself and or your blog and your review may go up here!

January Prize Winner!
Sorry for the delay guys. Generally, I will give everyone one week after the month ends to put
up their links for the month and then announce the winner.
So without further ado the January winner as picked by random.org is....
Karen at GHHS!
Congrats! I'll leave you a comment on your blog (or you can comment here with your email) and you will have 48 hours to get back to me.
You can choose any book from our prizes list
Everyone else remember to link your reviews and you can't win more than once so everyone has a fair chance!

POC Challenge Non-Review Links of Interest (2010)
Color Online had a really good suggestion that we have a dedicated post where we could link-up non-review items of interest, like book discussions, articles, and essays. So, here we have one!
